Ranaghat PS Case No 80 dated 16/03/03 u/s 302/201/1208 IPC.
(Murder of Dr. Chandan Sen).

One Dr. Chandan Sen of S.D. Hospital, Ranaghat was invited by Sunil Kumar Ganguli (Head Asstt of S.D. Hospital, Ranaghat) at his house at Nakari, PS Ranaghat on 26/02/03 Evening along with Dr. Subha Ranjan Khara and others.

After taking meal at about 22:00 hrs Dr. Sen and others came out of the house of the host and was missing. Subsequently his dead body was found in the adjacent pond. This has got a reference vide Ranaghat PS UD Case NO 50 dated 27/02/03.

The dead body was sent to Calcutta Morgue for PM examination by FSM, Kolkata Medical College. Dr. A K Gupta in his PM report No 214 dated 28/02/03 opined that death was antemortem and homicidal in nature due to smothering. Over this Sri S K Guha, IIC Ranaghat PS started Ranaghat PS Case No 80 dated 16/03/03 uls 302/201/120B IPC suomoto. Investigation of the case was endorsed to SI Pintu Sarkar of Ranaghat PS. Later CID WB took up its investigation.

Following accd persons were arrested¬ :
1. Dr Subha Ranjan Khara of S.D. Hospital, Ranaghat.
2. Sunil Kr Ganguli UD Asst. of do.
3. Apurba Mohan Sanyal - Social Welfare Officer of do.
4. Goutam Ganguli slo Sunil Kr Ganguli.
5. Dr (Mrs) Arundhuti Khara wlo Dr. Subha Ranjan Khara.
6. Abbas Ali Karikar of Ishmali, PS Dhantala all of Dist Nadia.
All the aced persons are in judicial custody.

Alamat properties, viscera, sample plastic bags, scalp-hair, blood, nail scrapings etc. were sent to FSL, Belgachia, Calcutta-37 for examination and opinion.

Reports from FSL Cal and FSM, Medical College, Calcutta were received and statements of witnesses were taken. Witnesses like Smt. Namita Ghosh, Pada Biswas, Munna Sahani, accd Apurba Mohan Sanyal made statements uls 164 CrPC before the judicial Magistrate

From the statement of witnesses it further transpired that Dr. Rahamat - A- Alam (of S.D. Hospital, Ranaghat) and his driver Abbas Ali Karikar were seen moving together in the evening of the day of incident and later just before the incident, this driver was found near the PO along with two other unknown persons. It is therefore clear from the circumstances that they made conspiracy to kill the victim. It was also found that the accused driver Abbas purchased land worth Rs 1 lakh after this incident and he could not account for the money. Dr. Alam, a surgeon was learnt to be an arch rival of and could not see face to face with the victim Dr Sen. He plotted the conspiracy to kill the victim and used Dr. Khara couple and others in the crime.

Dr. Khara is learnt to have a bad reputation and circumstances show that he took keen interest in organizing this party. When Dr. Sen had not reached the party place, Dr Khara along with Sunil Ganguli left to fetch him by his car in desperation. Dr Khara also got himself detailed for the PM duty for the following day in the hospital in connivance with Sunil Ganguli. After the incident, he also gave the first aid treatment to the victim in a very unprofessional manner. He along with the host Sunil Ganguli was also last seen with the victim a few minutes before the incident in the night. He also hurriedly went away after leaving the dead body of the victim at Ranaghat Hospital.

In this case CS No 141 dated 12/6/03 u/s 302/201/1208 IPC has been submitted against above noted six accd persons and Dr Rahamat -A-Alam (showing him absconder as he could not arrested) The court has recently issued a Warrant, Proclamation and Attachment against him. The same is being executed.
